We make 3D-printed accessories for both the Thermomix TM6 and the TM7, which means we spend a lot of time with both machines side by side. So when people ask us whether the TM7 is really that different, we can give a straight answer: yes — this is the biggest change to the Thermomix in years. Here is what actually changed, and what each change means once the machine is on your bench.
The screen — the change you notice first
The TM7 jumps to a 10-inch multi-touch display, up from the TM6's 6.8-inch screen. It feels less like an appliance control panel and more like a tablet built into your kitchen — easier to read a recipe across the room, easier to tap with floury hands.
The flip side: it is a big, bright, expensive piece of glass sitting right in the splash zone and at toddler height. It is the main reason a screen cover is more useful on the TM7 than it ever was on the TM6.
The dial is gone
For the first time, the physical twist knob has been removed — the TM7 is controlled entirely by touch. If you are coming from a TM6 or a TM5, there is a short adjustment as your muscle memory catches up, but most owners settle in within a week.
A completely different shape
This is the biggest design departure in years. The TM7 is black-only, with an insulated bowl that sits on top of a flat base unit, rather than down inside the machine like older models. It looks sleek — but it also changes which parts are exposed. With the bowl lifted off, the motor section is open to dust and knocks, which is exactly why a motor cover has become one of our most popular TM7 pieces, and was not really needed on the TM6.
Quieter, with a bigger Varoma
The TM7's motor is dramatically quieter than the TM6's — a real difference in an open-plan kitchen or a house with a sleeping baby. The Varoma steamer is also around 45% larger, so you can steam more in one go.
Smarter software and profiles
The TM7 adds per-user profiles, faster connectivity, remote monitoring and recipe handover from your phone. Day to day it simply feels quicker and smoother — the same Thermomix brain in a more modern body.
What it means for accessories
Here is the practical upshot, and the reason we get asked: TM6 and TM7 accessories are not interchangeable. The new shape, the larger screen, the redesigned spatula and the exposed motor section all mean TM7 covers and holders are designed specifically for the TM7. If you have upgraded, your old TM6 covers will not fit — but we make TM7 versions of all of them.
So, is it worth upgrading?
Honestly? If your TM6 still works beautifully, you do not need to. But if you cook often and love the gadget, the bigger screen, quieter motor and roomier Varoma make the TM7 a genuinely nicer machine to live with. And if you do make the jump, treat it like the premium piece of kit it is — a little protection from day one keeps it looking and working like new.
